Child of Light is a platforming role-playing video game developed and published by Ubisoft. In the game you play as Aurora, a child stolen from her home, who, in her quest to return, must bring back the sun, the moon and the stars held captive by the mysterious Queen of the Night.
The player first takes control of Aurora when she wakes in the mythical land of Lemuria, upon an altar. Aurora frees the Lady of the Forest who tells Aurora the history of Lemuria. The land was once ruled by the Queen of Light until one night she vanished. With the Queen of Light gone, darkness came and from it, came the Queen of Dark, Umbra. Umbra sent her daughters to steal Lemuria’s light, the sun, the stars, and the moon. Umbra’s dark creatures rule the land. Aurora’s world is linked to Lemuria by a mirror, that the dark Queen has also stolen. The Lady of the Forest creates firefly, Igniculus to accompany and aid Aurora on her way.Aurora and Igniculus must recover the light if Aurora is to be reunited with her father. On her quest Aurora meets with many characters.
The game plays through enjoyable exploration and puzzle solving as a turn based, side-scrolling RPG. Child of Light was well accepted and praised for its battle system that grants diverse battles with many different monsters. The artwork has a quality of hand-painted, serene yet delicate water-color backdrops. Choices made in the game by Aurora will impact on the journey. There is feeling of warmth, sadness and sentimentality throughout the game. It takes about 12 hours to play through Child of Light making it a short but sweet, memorable and melancholic game experience.
